Quick fit autos Check Engine Light

The indicator lights, often known as the check engine light, signal that something is amiss from the car’s engine computer. However, if the light starts flashing, it could indicate a more severe issue, such as a misfire, quickly overheating the catalytic converter.

Is it safe to drive with the check engine light activated?

It’s unsettling when the check engine light turns on while you’re driving. But don’t panic. The check engine light indicates that your emissions system is faulty. Still, you’re OK to go for the time being as long as the car isn’t acting abnormally.
Ignoring a flashing light can lead to more serious problems, such as breaking an expensive catalytic converter. If your engine light is blinking, get your car repaired as soon as possible.

Five main Reasons Why Your Vehicle’s Check Engine Light Is activated

If it’s time for a regular maintenance service, your vehicle’s check engine light may illuminate. A service warning light may also appear on your dashboard. On the other hand, the check engine light is usually illuminated because one of the five items listed below fails. QUICK FIT AUTOS can run a diagnostic test to determine why the check engine light is on and then solve the issue, so you don’t have to worry about it anymore.

Catalytic Converter

Hopefully, your check engine light isn’t flashing because your catalytic converter has failed. We only mention this because replacing the catalytic converter can be costly, and your vehicle will not work without it. A catalytic converter is a unit of your vehicle’s exhaust system, and if you smell rotten eggs and have a check engine light, this is most likely the issue.

Gas Cap

Hopefully, your check engine light turned on because you didn’t tighten the gas cap on your car or SUV tightly enough the last time you filled it up. A loose gas cap will cause the engine light to illuminate because the cap should create a vacuum seal once tightened. Your check engine light will turn on if your cap is loose, damaged, or the seal is broken because you didn’t tighten it.

Oxygen Detector

The oxygen sensor is in the same boat. This important factor component determines how much-unburned oxygen is present in your car’s exhaust, and if there is too little or too much, it can cause damage to other engine components. A faulty oxygen sensor will always result in a check engine light. In fact, it’s one of the most typical reasons why your car’s check engine light illuminates while you’re driving.

Sensor for mass airflow

The airflow sensor in your car’s engine monitors the amount of air entering the engine to ensure the proper amount of fuel. If you don’t have the right air/fuel combination, your engine may stall or refuse to start. The onboard computer signals a problem with your engine’s air/fuel mixture when the mass airflow sensor fails, and your check engine light activates.

Spark Plugs

Finally, a check engine light will illuminate due to worn spark plugs or plug wires. Check engine light will turn on if something is wrong with your vehicle’s ignition system. If your car has over 100,000 miles on it and your plugs haven’t been changed, it’s time for new plugs and maybe new wires.

These are five main reasons you can notice in your car while driving, but you don’t need to worry about it. You can still drive it with the light on for the time being.
